DESIGN PROPOSAL
Spring 2009
Project Outline: The area of concern is to create awareness and education on the concept of Healthy Homes in East and West Baltimore. The concept of healthy homes encompasses many different concerns.
Project Research:
- To thoroughly analyze all material provided: including focus group recordings, notes, etc.
- To get involved, in all ways possible, with this community: attend future Days in the Market, other events
- Attend future focus group to actually talk with community: present to them, and ask them what they think works (testing with community)
- Analyze thinking patterns (from focus groups) to pinpoint concerns, as well as decide what this community is impacted by
- Analyze other previous design strategies relating to community outreach, and learn from those strategies
- Decide which approaches really have impact, and which do not
Goals for end of week 16:
Create a dialogue in the community. Start conversation about important issues. To produce a product or a strategy that people will be receptive to. It is important that our solution is innovative enough to evoke thought, if not action into the community. Creating awareness is the first step to creating action.

STRATEGIES/ APPROACHES:
Produce a product/item/ to give away to audience that will help spread HH messages. This item/object needs great initial impact so that the person who receives it will share the message/story.
Strategy # 2: Community Event/Large Scale venture
Organize Community Event, through school, through back yard gardens… Create a movement that people will talk about.
Strategy # 3: Guerilla Approach
Use a symbol to influence thought anonymously. If something is seen on a repetitive basis or constantly confronting the viewer it is sure to be noticed.
Strategy # 4: To Parents Through Children
Send messages to parents through children. Through games, events, etc. Getting parents involved with their kids about important issues.
